Electronics Engineer

NL Technologies - Toronto, ON

NL Technologies (NLT) is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design products relating to our cap lamp and network products.


The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing analogue and digital electronic circuits. The candidate must be willing to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and exhibit strong technical skills and self-motivation. Excellent communication, time management, and ability to multi-task on various projects will be critical.

You will have the opportunity to work with leading edge technology and help influence the next generation of IoT products for NLT.


  • Analyze system requirements
  • Develop analogue and digital electronic circuits
  • Research for new components and conduct component selection
  • Prepare schematics, BOM, net lists
  • Provide support during engineering and commissioning phases
  • Work with external contract engineering firms, suppliers, board layout designers, board manufacturing
  • Troubleshoot and rework prototype boards
  • Write test requirements, set up test environment (including electronics test equipment)
  • Work closely with mechanical and software developers
  • Investigate new technologies and their applicability
  • Perform design verification to determine if the requirements have been met.
  • Understand and follow company policies, procedures, work instructions and standards and makes recommendations for continuous improvements



  • Experience with:
    • Analogue and digital circuit design
    • Low level / discrete component level design
    • Battery management and design of battery powered products
    • Switch mode power supply (up to 30W)
    • Automatic control system design
    • Analog-to-Digital conversion
    • Design with micro controllers
    • Design with I2C, SPI, UART, RS485 interfaces
    • Design interfaces for wired, wireless and radio based circuits
    • Low current consumption electronic circuit design
    • EMI, EMC design
    • Orcad or Altium schematic Capture
    • Understanding and ability to lead PCB layout design
    • Simulation tools for electronic circuits
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficient with office applications

A minimum of 10 years of experience using the above skills.


Additional Skills preferred

  • Microcontroller firmware design experience including C programming
  • Experience with designing for intrinsic safety

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
